Most of the people do not have clear cut idea regarding the organic foods. Organic foods are those foods that are produced, processed and packaged without using chemicals. Organic foods are free of pesticides. They doesn’t have any synthetic additives. They are natural foods have grown with more conscious for health of soil, the plants and people who consume them. They have significantly higher levels of nutrients and supply to the body when we eat . Organic foods retains the nutrients for longer periods of time. The problem with today’s diet they are filled with refined and junk foods which contain more amount of empty calories and harmful chemicals. And so your body nutritional requirements are not met and it ends up with obesity and diseases. The quality of health and quantity of life can be improved by organic foods.

Organic foods are more nutritious as they supply high level of nutrients required by the body. They are richer in vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids.

Organic foods ensures environment safety as these foods doesn’t contain any harmful chemicals in farming , there is minimal soil, air and water pollution.

Eating organic foods reduces the amount of toxic substances that you are exposing to your body. It reduces your susceptibility to cancer, Parkinson’s ,allergies etc.
Organic meat, eggs, dairy products are produced from animals that are fed organic feed. Livestock and poultry are given all organic feeds. No antibiotics, feed grown with pesticides and hormones given to animals.
Organic foods do not contain genetically modified organisms.
Children are more susceptible to the harmful effects of chemicals, and prone to various diseases as their immune system is not at developed .Eating organic foods provides health benefits to children.

In medicine, hemofiltration, also haemofiltration, is a renal replacement therapy similar to hemodialysis which is used almost exclusively in the intensive care setting. Low Fat diet

Gastroparesis is also known as delayed stomach emptying. In this disease the stomach empties food into intestine very slowly. When high amount of fats are present in foods we eat then this delays stomach emptying and cause gastroparesis. So low fat diet is good for gastroparesis.

Malabsorption and low fat diet: steatorrhea which is due to malabsorption of fat , where more than 6% of dietary fat is excreted in stool. In pancreas and small intestine diseases, patients have trouble in absorbing nutrients from diet, that include fat. A low fat diet helps may help to control symptoms.

Fat is normally not stored in liver. Due to number of reasons fat may accumulate in the liver and this may damage to liver. A low fat diet may be helpful.

• Include more number of fruits and vegetables in your diet.

This highly water-soluble sodium succinate ester of hydrocortisone permits the immediate intravenous administration of high doses of hydrocortisone in a small volume of diluent and is particularly useful where high blood levels of hydrocortisone are required rapidly.A-Hydrocort sterile powder is available for intravenous or intramuscular administration. Vials containing hydrocortisone sodium succinate equivalent to 100 mg hydrocortisone, also 0.8 mg monobasic sodium phosphate anhydrous, 8.73 mg dibasic sodium phosphate anhydrous.When necessary, the pH was adjusted with sodium hydroxide so that the pH of the reconstituted solution is within the USP specified range of 7 to 8.For intravenous or intramuscular injection, vial should be reconstituted with Bacteriostatic Water for Injection or Bacteriostatic Sodium Chloride. For intravenous infusion, vial should be reconstituted with Bacteriostatic Water for Injection.

Soluble Fiber: It is responsible for controlling sugar and cholesterol levels in the system. Soluble fiber dissolves in water to form gel like substance. Soluble fibers are gums, pectins and mucilages. In our daily dietary fiber intake 20 – 30% should come from soluble fiber. It prolongs stomach emptying time so that the sugar is released slowly and absorbed slowly. Soluble fiber has beneficial effects on lowering cholesterol, which can help in weight management and heart diseases. It also regulates and maintains blood sugar levels for people with diabetes. It increases the good bacteria in the bowel. Then these bacteria produce gas and the short chain fatty acids. Short chain fatty acids provide some of the beneficial effects and are helpful in maintaining blood glucose levels. They also reduce LDL levels which is a bad cholesterol and triglycerides. The food sources of soluble fiber includes Oats, Flax seed, Barley, psyllium husk, Apples, Carrots, Orange, Beans, Peas, Nuts, Soy.

Pectins: Pectins are soluble fibers and are mostly abundant in fruits.

Gums: Gums are soluble fibers.They are viscous and found in seeds. Examples of gum guar gum etc.

Mucilages: It is a soluble fiber and thick sticky substance. It is mostly used in medicines.

Insoluble Fiber: Insoluble fiber leads bulk to food and prevents constipation, piles,appendicitis. Insoluble fibers are cellulose, hemicelluloses and lignin. It improves the health of digestive system by increasing bulk in stool and it stimulates normal bowel movements. Bulimia nervosa is an eating disorder characterized by recurrent and frequent episodes of eating unusually large amounts of food and feeling a lack of control over the eating. This binge-eating is followed by a type of behavior that compensates for the binge, such as purging, fasting and excessive exercise. Bulimia is associated with depression and other psychiatric disorders and shares symptoms with anorexia nervosa, another major eating disorder. Because many individuals with Bulimia can maintain a normal weight, they are able to keep their condition a secret for years. If not treated, Bulimia can lead to nutritional deficiencies and even fatal complications.

Types:

What is lock jaw?

Trismus or lock jaw is condition in which patient is unable to open his mouth.

What are the causes of Lock Jaw?

• Inflammation around molar teeth: Abscess formation or pericoronitis around last molar makes opening of mouth difficult.

• Tetanus: It is characterized by lock jaw; first it affects jaw and neck area and then progress to other parts of body.

• Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder: Disorders of the teeth can contribute to TMJ dysfunction. Impaired tooth mobility and tooth loss can be caused by destruction of the supporting bone and by heavy forces being placed on teeth.

• Oral sub mucous fibrosis: Due to excessive tobacco chewing and smoking moth opening becomes difficult.

What is the treatment of Lock Jaw?

Low Sodium diet

Sodium is found in salt. 5 gms that is 1 teaspoon of salt contains about 2,000 – 3,000 mg of sodium. The recommended daily intake of sodium is 5gm that is around 2300mg. Limiting the salt in our daily diet is low sodium diet. Too much sodium in your diet is not good for health. It may cause your body to retain excess fluid. Limiting the salt intake is important for patients with kidney disease, liver and heart disease.

Normal sodium intake recommendations:
0 - 12 months 1 gm
1 - 3 years 2 gm
4 - 6 years 3 gm
7 - 10 years 5 gm
Above 11 years 5 to 6gms

Role of sodium:

The amount of sodium in the body is regulated by kidneys. When there is too much of sodium in the body kidneys filter some out and the excess sodium is excreted in the urine. When the body doesn’t have enough sodium, the kidneys help to conserve sodium and return the needed amount into the blood stream. When kidneys are not working properly or not able to filter, sodium begins to build up in the blood. Sodium in the blood pulls up out and holds the water from cells in the body and leads to edema. This in turn increases the volume of the blood and puts pressure on the circulatory system.

Benefits of low sodium diet:

A low sodium diet for kidney patients is necessary to prevent fluid retention.
A low sodium diet helps to reduce blood pressure.
A low sodium diet is good for people who are at the risk of heart diseases.
It helps in management of hypertension.

Tips to follow a low sodium diet:

Choose the foods which are naturally low in sodium.
Don’t add too much of salt to you food.
While you shop , read the nutrition fact labels so that one can determine sodium content in the food.
Avoid fat free dressings as these contain lot of sodium.
Avoid eating pickles.
Avoid foods containing preservatives especially in canned foods and processed foods as they have high sodium content.
Limit use of condiments that are high in sodium.
In the market salt substitutes are available such as potassium chloride and magnesium chlorine. However some people may not tolerate the salt substitute so one should be careful in adding those to their dishes. Use unless a healthcare provider prescribes.
Frozen prepared food items should be avoided.
Avoid soups as they are high in salt.
Salad dressing and dip contain high in salt should be avoided.
French fries, potato chips , papads should be avoided as they contain salt.

Low Sodium Foods:

Fruit drinks, Apple, Banana, Blackberries, Broccoli, Cherries, Black Berries, Coffee, Chick Pea, Walnuts, Straw berries, Peaches, Prunes, Rice, Cucumber, Watermelon, Wheat, Honey, Barley, Jam, Pop corn unsalted, Nuts unsalted, Puffed rice.

Medium Sodium Foods:

Egg limit 1 per day
Limit one choice per day should be around ½ serving. celery, carrots, Mustar greens,Frozenpeas, Turnip.
Low fat milk limits 2 cups per day.

High Sodium content foods:

Buttermilk, Olives, Pickles, Canned vegetable juices, salted butter, salted margarine, sauces, Marinades, Salt biscuits, Potato chips, cheese, Instant pudding, Soft drinks, Fish ,oysters.




Nutrition and Celiac disease

Celiac disease: In celiac disease one cannot digest gluten properly. It is an autoimmune disorder of small intestine. Symptoms of celiac disease include diarrhea and fatigue. In celiac disease absorption of all the macronutrients is reduced.

Dietary guidelines:

Iron deficiency anemia is common with celiac disease. optimize dietary sources with iron.
The gluten free diet are low in iron, calcium, zinc, magnesium , vitamin b12 and fiber. Hence daily vitamin and mineral supplementation is necessary.

Dietary Fat

Different types of fats are saturated and unsaturated fats:

These saturated fats increase LDL bad cholesterol. Daily recommended intake of saturated fats should be below 10% of total calorie intake. Unsaturated fats: These fats increase HDL cholesterol and decrease LDL cholesterol. Unsaturated fatty acids include both monounsaturated and polyunsaturated.

Polyunsaturated fats: Polyunsaturated fats should not exceed 10 percent of total calorie intake. Examples of these fats include sunflower oil, soy bean oil, safflower oil, flax seed oil , walnuts and fish oil. Polyunsaturated fat includes both omega 3 and omega 6.Omega 3 fats are anti-inflammatory Omega 3 fats are not synthesized by body , but we can get through some of the foods. Omega 3 fatty acids produce a metabolite DHA which reduces symptoms of depression. Omega 3 fatty acids improve oxygenation. Omega 6 fatty acids are proinflammatory.

Monounsaturated fats: The recommended intake of monounsaturated fats should be around 10 to 15 percent of total calorie intake. Monosaturated fats include olive oil, peanut oil, sesame oil and canola oil.

Your ears require very little maintenance. However, since you only have two of them, here are some hints to protect and keep those two healthy:

NEVER use cotton-tipped applicators (such as Q-tips) in your ears! Cerumen, or ear wax, is natural, lubricates the canal, catches dirt particles, and naturally moves itself and debris to the outside.

If you remove the cerumen, your ears will most likely become itchy.

Using applicators in the ear canal can push the wax deeply into the canal creating even more difficult removal, scratching the canal results in infection and tear the skin of the canal with bleeding, or even perforate or tear the ear drum.

If a child observes adults using applicators in their ears, they mimic the adults, using them in their own ears -often with serious injuries!

To clean the wax:

Clean the cerumen from the outer ear canal with a moist washcloth wrapped around your finger.

Provided there is no perforation or hole in the ear drum, limited use of wax removal drops or hydrogen peroxide in the ear as well as allowing warm shower to enter the canal will help soften and remove the wax.

Avoid loud sounds:

Exposure to loud music, fireworks, firearms, motorcycles, aircraft, power tools, and other sources of loud sound may cause permanent nerve-type hearing loss - even with one exposure!

Tinnitus, or ringing in the ear, often accompanies such loss and is also often permanent.

When exposed to loud noise, always wear adequate approved ear protection.

Keep children away from such sounds; they can permanently lose their hearing, too.

Ear pain may not be due to the ear itself.

Other conditions, such as temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disease, Eustachian tube dysfunction, tumors in the throat behind the nose, or referred pain from tumors or infections in the throat or voice box may cause pain in the ear.

If you have ear pain, see your physician or an otolaryngologist.

Recurrent ear infections or fluid in the middle ear in children can cause permanent damage to the ears and hearing.
